This lesson will get the game progressing a bit-students will play 4v4 games, maintaining possession and attempting to score in a goal or endzone.  Students will focus on making great passes that are easy to receive.  It is expected that students will remember their team contract and roles, as well as rules for the boundaries and restarting play.

Tactical Problem: 

Playing the 4v4 Team Handball game, maintaining possession as a team, and attacking an endzone or a goal

Lesson Objectives: 
  1. Students will show an understanding and level of skill for each team contract role
  2. Students will show respect and teamwork while keeping the ball away from defenders.
  3. Students will use their ability to maintain possession to get the ball to a desired area:the goal, or endzone.
  4. Students will show respect for each other by congratulating their teammates and opponents for good plays or effort.
Game 1: 

2v2 at Home Court

Goal: Earn 5 points per team

Conditions:

  1. Players can only take 1 step with the ball
  2. Players must use a warm defense (arm's length)
  3. 5 passes in a row equals 1 point
Probing Questions: 

What are the best type of passes to keep the ball?
How should you catch the ball?  Hands out or In?  Why?
How did you try to make everyone feel positive?

Practice Tasks: 

Passing and receiving in pairs (or 3 ways if neccessary)
Try to make great passes that are easy to receive.
Goal is to make consecutive catches: 5, 10, 15, 20...
Extensions: Use 1 hand passes, bounce passes, pass and then move, pass to moving receiver

Game 2: 

4v4 To The Endzone
Goal: Earn 5 points per team
Conditions:

  1. Players can only take 1 step with the ball
  2. Players must use a warm defense (arm's length)
  3. 5 passes in a row equals 1 point
  4. Use the usual boundary and restart rules
